Getting to Estes Park

08/01/2007
Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park are two of the most accessible mountain areas in the state of Colorado because there are no mountain passes to cross en route and because the highways are well maintained year-round.
From Denver, Colorado’s capital city: Interstate 25 north to U.S. Highway 36 through Boulder, to Lyons and Estes Park, or Interstate 25 to the Rocky Mountain National Park exit 243 (Colorado 66 to U.S. Highway 36), then west to Estes Park. From Interstate 25/Longmont: At Rocky Mountain National Park exit 243, Colorado 66 west to Lyons, U.S. Highway 36 to Estes Park. From Interstate 25/Loveland: U. S. Highway 34 west through the Big Thompson Canyon. From Lyons: A more leisurely route following the “Peak to Peak Scenic Byway,” Colorado Highway 7 west from U. S. Highway 36, through Allenspark, past Meeker Park, through the Tahosa Valley into Estes Park. From Granby/Grand Lake (west of the Continental Divide): Via Trail Ridge Road to Estes Park (Memorial Day through mid-October, weather permitting). |
