For a half-day treat, take U.S. 34 west through the National Park’s entrance to Fall River Road, built in 1920. When you reach Endovalley, the road becomes gravel, one-way and uphill for nearly 10 miles.
Waterfalls, glacier deposits, icy pools and breathtaking views are all part of this trip. Because of the steep grades and switchbacks, it is not open to trailers or mobile homes.
At the Alpine Visitors Center, turn left. Along the route, you will pass Trail Ridge Road’s high point. From Deer Ridge Junction, continue to Estes Park on scenic U.S. Hwy. 34 or U.S. Hwy. 36.
